The thing I would like to change is reversing the trend of more restricted freedom. The future should have more freedom in the world not less

Regarding freedom, I want to create a world where every person, regardless of their background, gender, or social status, has the same opportunities to shape their life according to their own vision. Freedom should not only consist of the absence of coercion, but also the ability to realize oneself and pursue one’s dreams. I want everyone to have access to education, fair job opportunities, and a just society that allows them to live free from fear, poverty, or discrimination. In particular, young people should grow up in a world where they have the freedom to shape their future without limitations, in a society that protects and promotes their rights.

I believe the world needs a stronger focus on empowering youth and giving them the platform to fully participate in decision-making processes. This is crucial for building a world where freedom is not only an ideal but a reality for everyone. SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) highlights the importance of political participation, which is especially relevant for young people. Unfortunately, despite the progress made, youth are still often excluded from crucial political processes. This is something I want to change. I believe we need stronger collaboration and more opportunities for young people to engage in discussions on global issues and freedom. One way to achieve this could be the establishment of an international conference on freedom, held annually. This conference could serve as a platform where youth from around the world come together to exchange ideas, collaborate on initiatives, and work towards real, tangible change. In alignment with Resolution 2250, which underscores the role of youth as essential partners in peace and conflict efforts, it’s vital that we continue to recognize the power of young people in shaping peace and freedom. I envision a world where youth are not just passive recipients of decisions, but active participants in shaping the future. This is why I strongly advocate for mentoring programs that provide guidance and resources for young people to become leaders in the fight for freedom and justice. The Youth 2030 Strategy from the United Nations also stresses the need for stronger youth participation at all levels of decision-making. To make this vision a reality, we need to create more structures that allow young people to step into leadership roles and engage with international organizations, governments, and institutions in meaningful ways. My goal is to create a world where freedom is not just a word, but a lived experience for every young person, regardless of their background, nationality, or circumstances. By facilitating stronger collaboration, empowering youth through mentorship, and creating spaces for global dialogue, we can pave the way for lasting peace, justice, and freedom for all.

There are proposals like the Basic Universal Income that would help people born in economic instability have the minimal wealth to pursue who they want to be in life. Censorship in social media and the news must be reduced, free speech should not be restricted and information should not be hidden from the people. It is outrageous that some governments and big multinationals prioritize short-term economic interests over long-term sustainability, which will only affect the newer generations.

I would want to encourage everybody in the world to understand that there is no 'one way' to go towards freedom. And that everybody must be open to understanding what is reasonable within multiple perspectives, and for that — a great deal of noble empathy is needed.

Treaty of Middelburg

The freedom from needs is something that I've struggled with in the past. Coming from a low-income household that lived off of unemployment benefits, I never could've even imagined going to university. Now, I'm not just pursuing the path that my parent's couldn't, but I'm also doing real impact within my community and the German war cemetery in Lommel. I'm writing to you from a train, on the way to meet a politician in Hanover to discuss Lommel's needs. All of this couldn't have happened if I didn't win the German Federal President's History Competition. The 3.000 Euros of that competition made it possible for me to actually not have to worry about the financial needs of my family and to pursue advocacy for historical remembrance. The freedom from needs is a fundamental freedom that allows for all other freedom(s) to be pursued wholeheartedly. The pursuit of freedom is only just if we realise the socio-economic pressures that many are impacted by. Freedom has to come from all walks of lives and from all indivuduals. Freedom is not self-evident in it's pure form. It is only evident if we include those voices unheard of from before. Therefore, if I were to change anything, then that is to give young people the secure feeling of not having to struggle mentally and physically for their family's situation.
