Treaty of Middelburg

I would want to make people more patient and empathetic with each other. Without mutual understanding, freedom becomes fragile. It’s only real when we create space for each other’s voices and experiences.

I would work on ensuring that all people, regardless of their background, have access to the ability to freely express their opinions without fear.

I believe that basic education and critical thinking skills should be taught to as many people as possible. This is the only way to make informed decisions that reflect your core values. Besides, I would like important decisions (about migration, grants/loans, career advancement) to be made on a more personal level rather than based on a passport in many cases. I believe this limits development of both, the person in question and the society.

I would like to ensure that freedom as principle is fought for in all aspects of society. Societies that have freedom of speech, worship, from fear, from want and more should express gratitude for having such. However, they should also attempt to assist those in the world that do not. It is important to understand that freedom is not a given, it must be fought for and maintained.

Er wordt vaak geluisterd naar de minderheid van de maatschappij omdat zij hun vaak benadeeld voelen voor een vaak onterrechte reden.

I would like to see a world where young people have more autonomy in making important life decisions without excessive pressure from society, family, or institutions. Specifically: Education choices: Allow young people more flexibility in choosing their educational paths, rather than being pushed towards 'traditional' or 'safe' options. Career paths: Encourage exploration of diverse career options, including non-traditional ones, without stigma or undue pressure to conform to societal expectations. Financial independence: Provide better education and opportunities for young people to achieve financial independence earlier, allowing for more freedom in life choices.

LGBTQI+ rights (some EU countries don‘t even legally accept same-sex marriage). Women‘s rights (beyond a capitalist understanding of the term, a intersexual modern understanding of it fighting for rights of black and trans women). Migrant rights. Rights for all youths, beyond European borders (e.g Palestinians, Sudanese, Syrians in the transition to a new regime). I seek a concept of freedom that goes hand in hand with globalisation, a universal truth for freedom that goes beyond borders without it being imposed on other cultures and identities (although I understand the utopic nature of these ideas).

If the biggest threat to our globalised world is the rise of misinformation, then a change is needed in order to combat this systematic problem. The digitalization of the government and of the electoral system is our only way of achieving a transaprent society, which would, I believe, naturally come up with the best and most important democratic solution to the challenges it faces. Democracy should not be based on the desires and plans of the previous system; rather, it should truly reflect the choices of the popular vote. A digital democracy can and will place more emphasis on referendums. Thus closing the gap between the voters and the system. Bringing democracy back to the people in a world that feels more isolated
