Treaty of Middelburg
If I could change one thing in the world regarding freedom, it would be to ensure that every individual, especially young people, has the freedom to express themselves without fear of judgment, censorship, or retaliation. In many places, people still can’t speak openly about who they are, what they believe, or what they dream of becoming. I believe true freedom goes beyond laws, it includes emotional safety, cultural acceptance, and equal access to opportunities regardless of background. I would work to create a world where freedom means the ability to explore one’s identity, speak one’s truth, and pursue one’s goals without being held back by discrimination, fear, or systemic barriers.

Freedom to me means the ability to be able to express yourself with restricts.
What are the biggest challenges?
One of the biggest challenges young people face today regarding freedom is the tension between constant connectivity and genuine self-expression. While digital platforms offer unprecedented access to information and the ability to voice opinions, they also come with surveillance, data tracking, and social pressures that can subtly restrict how freely young people speak or behave. Economic dependence is another major hurdle, rising living costs, student debt, and job instability often limit the choices young people can make about their careers and personal lives. Cultural expectations and political environments in certain regions can also suppress individuality, especially when it comes to identity or activism. Even internally, the weight of mental health issues and anxiety about the future, exacerbated by global crises like climate change, can leave young people feeling trapped. In today’s world, freedom is no longer just about physical liberty but also about navigating digital, emotional, and societal boundaries.
