Treaty of Middelburg
In many parts of the world, young people face political and social oppression, limiting their ability to express themselves and shape their future. Important facilities for young people to learn and grow, such as education and employment, get restricted around the world. Think about countries like Afghanistan, Iran, Myanmar or South Sudan.

Why do you want to participate?
The opportunity to participate in the International Youth Freedom Conference will form a big opportunity to get into contact with and learn from others. It is important to broaden my view and knowledge regarding Freedom around the world, and I hope to do to by participating in this event. Further, I want to dedicate myself to youth freedom from my privileged position compared to young people my age around the world.
What does freedom mean to you?
For me personally, freedom means that one can do whatever he/she chooses, without being restricted on oneβs way of life, behavior or political views. Thus that one is free to go, say, and act how they want to. Being able to dress how you want, to adhere to the religion of your choice, being able to walk down the street with your partner, whether male or female. Being able to make your own choices is also an important factor of being free.
What are the biggest challenges?
Freedom for me also means that an individual has personal autonomy over their own body and is able to make decisions about their body without coercion or legal restrictions.
Do you have a message?
If I could change something in the world, I would immediately make it possible for every child, teen or adolescent to be able to go to school. Nobody should be denied the chance to learn due to what reason so ever. Education is highly important because it forms the foundation for a better future, it provides an individual with knowledge and skills to secure a (better) job and improve their economic situation, thereby breaking the cycle of Poverty. ''Be the change you want to see in the world'' has been my motto ever since I came across this saying. I will keep this in mind during this special opportunity.
