Treaty of Middelburg
If I could change something in the world regarding freedom, I would focus on ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has equal access to the freedom to express themselves, pursue their passions, and live without fear of discrimination or oppression. This would mean creating a world where people’s voices are heard and valued, and where freedom of speech and thought are protected and celebrated. I would also work toward a more equitable society, where economic and social barriers no longer restrict individuals from achieving their full potential. Ensuring that young people, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds, have access to education, opportunities, and the tools they need to make independent choices is key. Ultimately, I would want to foster a global culture of respect and empathy, where freedom isn’t just about individual rights, but about creating a collective environment where people support one another’s freedoms, allowing us all to thrive together.

Why do you want to participate?
Freedom is essential to me because it forms the foundation of personal autonomy and the ability to make one's own choices. It allows individuals to determine their own path, express their opinions, and live their lives according to their beliefs, without undue external restrictions. In the context of international politics, freedom is crucial because it underpins democratic societies where people can have a say in their future. Freedom fosters creativity, innovation, and the right to pursue happiness. It also protects against tyranny and injustice, giving people the opportunity to live in a fair and just society. Freedom is therefore not only a personal value but also a universal good that supports the foundations of stability, peace, and progress in the world.
What does freedom mean to you?
To me, freedom means the ability to live authentically and make choices that align with my values and beliefs, without fear of oppression or undue control from others. It’s about having the space to think, express, and act independently, while respecting the rights of others. Freedom is not just the absence of restrictions, but also the presence of opportunities to pursue personal growth, happiness, and equality. It empowers individuals to shape their own destinies, contribute to society, and engage with the world in meaningful ways. Ultimately, freedom represents the power to create and live a life that feels true to oneself.
What are the biggest challenges?
One of the biggest challenges regarding freedom for young people today is the pressure to conform to societal expectations, especially in a world that is increasingly driven by social media and digital platforms. Young people often feel the weight of judgment from their peers, and the desire to fit in can limit their ability to express their true selves freely. Additionally, the constant surveillance and privacy concerns online can create a sense of insecurity and inhibit their freedom of speech and self-expression. Another challenge is the growing economic uncertainty that many young people face, which can limit their freedom in terms of career choices, education, and lifestyle. The pressure to succeed in an increasingly competitive world can leave young people feeling trapped, unable to make choices that align with their passions or values. Lastly, political and social issues, such as restrictions on free speech, inequality, and discrimination, continue to impact the freedom of young people, especially those from marginalized communities. These barriers can make it more difficult for them to fully realize their potential and contribute to society in the ways they envision.
Do you have a message?
Yes, my message is simple: true freedom is not just about individual rights, but about creating a world where everyone can thrive, express themselves, and have the opportunities to reach their full potential. We all have a responsibility to protect and uplift the freedoms of others, especially those whose voices are often silenced or overlooked. When we create spaces of equality, understanding, and respect, we not only enrich our own lives but also contribute to a more just and compassionate world for everyone. Freedom isn’t just a personal goal it's a collective effort that makes the world stronger for us all.
