Treaty of Middelburg

One key area I want to change is how digital platforms shape freedom of thought and decision-making. Today, many young people’s online experiences are shaped by algorithms that curate content, often reinforcing biases, spreading misinformation, and limiting exposure to diverse perspectives. I believe it is crucial to increase transparency and accountability in how digital spaces are designed so that young people can navigate the online world with greater autonomy and awareness.

Why do you want to participate?

I am currently studying in an interdisciplinary program at the University of Amsterdam, specializing in the AI and Humanity track. Alongside my studies, I have been interning and working at BAHC Advisory, a London-based arts consultancy that focuses on cross-cultural communication and international cultural projects. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the importance of cross-cultural exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as the role young people play in driving social change. This program offers a unique platform to engage with like-minded changemakers from around the world. I see this as an opportunity not only to share my perspectives but also to gain insights from other young leaders and experts shaping the future of freedom.

What does freedom mean to you?

To me, freedom is both the power to choose and the responsibility to create. It is about having the ability to explore new ideas, challenge conventional norms, and pursue knowledge without limitations—whether in academia, professional life, or personal growth. At the same time, freedom is not just an individual pursuit; it is deeply connected to collaboration and shared progress. True freedom means using our knowledge and skills to bridge cultural gaps, promote dialogue, and drive positive change.

What are the biggest challenges?

For me, I think the major challenge is the gap between opportunity and accessibility. Freedom is not just about having rights—it is also about having the means to exercise them. A lot of us face barriers such as economic inequality, political oppression, or lack of educational and career opportunities, which can limit their ability to make independent choices and shape their futures. In some regions, young activists and changemakers even risk suppression or retaliation when advocating for social and political freedoms.

Do you have a message?

My message is that the intersection of artificial intelligence and human values holds the key to shaping a more equitable and innovative future. My academic focus in the AI and Humanity track at the University of Amsterdam has taught me that technology, when guided by ethical principles, can empower us to address complex societal challenges and enhance human freedom. I believe that as AI becomes increasingly integral to our lives, so it‘s essential to foster a balanced dialogue that bridges technical advancements with our shared cultural and moral values.
