Treaty of Middelburg

I would want to make people more patient and empathetic with each other. Without mutual understanding, freedom becomes fragile. It’s only real when we create space for each other’s voices and experiences.

Why do you want to participate?

I think freedom is something that can only be achieved by working together. At the same time, with so many different agents focused on their individual needs, few people feel responsible for it. I believe it’s an honourable opportunity to participate in creating a broad-based treaty.

What does freedom mean to you?

To me, freedom means being able to grow and develop myself in peace, without fear or constant worry. It’s the space to become who you are, in your own time and in your own way.

What are the biggest challenges?

I think one of the biggest freedom challenges for young people today is the overwhelming presence of technology. It shapes how we think, feel and relate to the world, often without us realising it, which can lead to less meaningful connections to others. At the same time, growing polarisation makes it harder to truly listen to or understand each other. As a result, we lose sight of the collective interest and the ability to act together.

Do you have a message?

Not for now, I’m not completely sure what to expect from everything from the conference, so probably more useful ideas during or afterwards.
