Treaty of Middelburg

I would introduce a global law requiring all countries to uphold basic human rights. If a country fails to do so, it should face consequences such as fines or sanctions enforced by the United Nations. Itโ€™s shocking that, in 2025, some nations still fail to guarantee fundamental rights for all their citizens.

Why do you want to participate?

I believe itโ€™s crucial for young people to participate because we are the next generation, yet decisions about our lives and future are being made without us. We should be more involved in shaping our own future and ensuring our voices are heard.

What does freedom mean to you?

To me, freedom means the right to be who I want to be, regardless of background, religion, or ethnicity. Everyone should have the fundamental right to live authentically and without discrimination.

What are the biggest challenges?

I see two major challenges. First, the rise of conservative and right-wing political movements in many countries has led to restrictions on human rights, such as the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the U.S. Second, the treatment of refugees and migrants, particularly in the Netherlands, is deeply concerning. The lack of empathy and support for people in need is something I struggle to understand. Additionally, social media plays a significant role in shaping opinions. Algorithms create echo chambers, where people only see content that aligns with their views, widening the gap between political ideologies and limiting open discussion.

Do you have a message?

Not at the moment, but I look forward to sharing my thoughts during the Youth Freedom Treaty discussions.
