Treaty of Middelburg

I would like to see youth voices be amplified in politics, to encourage media outlets to feature more stories about young people and their perspectives, to promote education on tolerance and diversity, and to see policies representing minorities.

Why do you want to participate?

I am always thrilled to join events of this nature and purpose as I find myself leaving with more energy, more ideas, more perspective and more optimistic towards youth-led change. Being involved in drafting proposals and knowing these could influence global policies is very stimulating for a young professional like me. Young voices are crucial in shaping the future, and being part of that movement is not just inspiring—it's essential. I'm ready to dive in, contribute my ideas, and work alongside others who are just as passionate about making freedom a reality for more people.

What does freedom mean to you?

Freedom to me means having the autonomy to make choices about one's own life—whether that’s choosing where to live, what career to pursue, who to associate with, or how to express oneself—without undue restraint or coercion.

What are the biggest challenges?

Due to the trending extreme right political agenda that is in power in many countries, it has impacted the legal system and availability of proper policy representation. This affects the freedom and opportunities of many young people labelled as minorities, when they just want to build a career and build a similar life to their non-minority counterparts. I would say limited social mobility challenges freedom. Young adults are excited to build a career and build a better life but many are at a disadvantage due to rooted problems in for instance the lack of education, systemic racial, ethnic and socio-economic disparities in opportunities.

Do you have a message?

True freedom isn’t just political—it’s financial. Without access to wealth-building tools, homeownership, and fair credit, freedom remains an illusion for many. I think this is an angle that I am knowledgeable and confident about, but I am eager to learn about many other versions of freedom that other people are passionate about.
